Three Lies About Premarital Sex

When Cindy met Rob, she knew that even though he attended church, he didn't share her convictions about premarital sex. Rob thought it was OK—and even good for dating couples to engage in—and Cindy believed it was wrong from a Christian perspective. As their friendship progressed, Cindy and Rob's opposing viewpoints caused some hot debates. It also forced them both to take a second look at their convictions. As a result, Cindy developed a deeper understanding of truth, and Rob was forced to face the lies he'd always believed. If you're like Cindy or Rob, and you've taken a stand for (or against) premarital sex, but you're not sure why, here are some things to consider. Scripture is Outdated, Right? Like many singles, Rob thinks the Scriptures on sexual purity are outdated and archaic. "Those parts of the Bible aren't relevant to today," he told Cindy. "After all, when the Scriptures were written, the people during that...

Is Sex Before Marriage Okay For Christians?

To answer this question, we need to go right to the very beginning of the Bible. In Genesis 1-2 God made the whole universe, which obviously included men and women (Gen 1:26-29). Genesis 2 focuses on the creation of men and women in more detail (as well as their God given roles). In chapter 2, God created Adam first (2:7), and then Eve (2:18, 20b-22). Adam’s response when he meets the first woman is in verse 23: This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. (ESV) The author of Genesis then draws out an implication from this in verse 24: Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. These verses are saying that given the nature of men and women, a man will leave his family and be united to his wife in marriage (forming a new family unit), and that they shall become one flesh. Becoming one flesh is the result of both being married...

Pre-Marital Sex and the Bible

Sex before marriage, pre-marital experience, assuming one is talking of sexual intercourse or perversion of the same, the word of God implies it all by calling it fornication. It knows no exception. It allows none. Renaming fornication does not change the act or remove the consequence. Those who commit fornication, sin. This message, like all other true Bible messages, is designed both for believers and disbelievers. "Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God" Romans 10:17, so the purpose of the Bible revelation is to create believers of those who would learn. The fact that premarital sex, fornication, homosexuality, are laughed at by the world should be of little consequence to one who seeks for truth, or to one who believes the truth. It is the truth that shall make you free (John 8:32). Now let's consider briefly the question of fornication, or pre-marital sex. Fornication is a sin against God. Sin is transgression of the law of God (I John...

Healthy Relationships (Colossians 3:12-13)

What do you want most out of life? Most of us would rank healthy relationships high on the list. Except for knowing Christ and having eternal life, healthy relationships make life enjoyable perhaps more than anything else. Even if your health isn’t the best, if you have loving relationships, you can enjoy life. You can make a pile of money, but if your relationships are broken or shallow, your life will be empty. A poor man with a loving family and good friends is far richer than a rich man who is poor relationally. The Bible ranks healthy relationships as the most important thing in life. A Jewish religious expert asked Jesus ( Matt. 22:36 ), “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied ( Matt. 22:37-40 ): “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the great and foremost commandment. The second is like it, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandme...
